Have a car in Metro Atlanta with dents, rust, a cracked windshield, storm damage, or accident damage and aren’t sure if anyone will take it? Wheels of Change can still accept your donation. Body damage does not disqualify your vehicle. Whether it’s sitting in a driveway in Decatur, on the street in Midtown, or in a garage in Marietta, we’ll work with our partner nonprofit, Heritage for the Blind, to turn that problem car into real support for people who are blind or visually impaired.
Here’s how it works in Georgia: we accept cars in any cosmetic condition. You do not need to fix the dents, rust, or glass. We arrange free towing anywhere in Metro Atlanta—running or not. Your vehicle is then sold; your tax deduction is based on the actual sale price, not how pretty the car looks. If it sells for less, you still receive a guaranteed minimum $500 donation receipt. If it sells for more than $500, you’ll use IRS Form 1098‑C for your deduction. From Buckhead to College Park to Snellville, we make donating a damaged car straightforward and transparent.
How to get your free pickup scheduled
1. Tell us about your damaged vehicle
Share your car’s basic info—year, make, model, location, and a quick description of the damage: dents, rust, cracked windshield, accident or storm damage. Whether it’s sitting in East Atlanta, Sandy Springs, or Lithonia, we only need enough detail to arrange pickup and estimate where it will sell best.
2. Schedule free pickup anywhere in Metro Atlanta
We coordinate a towing company to pick up your vehicle at a time that works for you. Driveway, apartment lot, or side street in places like Midtown, Brookhaven, or Smyrna—running or not, towing is always free. You don’t need to patch tires, jump the battery, or make the car moveable beyond basic access.
3. We handle the title and tow on pickup day
On pickup day, you sign the title and a simple release form. Our tow partner loads the car—even if it has severe body damage or broken glass. They’ll give you preliminary documentation, and we’ll keep you posted if any Georgia title issues come up so you’re never left wondering what’s next.
4. Your car is sold as‑is; damage is already expected
Your vehicle is taken to auction or a licensed buyer who specializes in as‑is and damaged cars. Cosmetic and structural damage are already factored in, so you’re not penalized beyond what the market naturally pays. No repairs are required from you at any point in this process.
5. You receive your tax receipt from Heritage for the Blind
After the sale, Heritage for the Blind mails you a tax receipt based on the actual sale price. Even if your car is heavily damaged, you’re guaranteed at least a $500 receipt. If it sells for more than $500, you’ll get the info you need for IRS Form 1098‑C for your federal tax return.
Potential complications to watch for
Missing or incorrect Georgia title
Tip: We can usually still help if your title is lost, but it may slow things down. Check that the name on the title matches your driver’s license and that there are no open liens. If you’re missing paperwork, let us know up front so we can walk you through Georgia’s replacement or correction process.
Car blocked in or not safely accessible for towing
Tip: Towers need a clear path to the vehicle, especially if it has severe body damage or won’t roll. Before pickup in places like tight in-town driveways or condo garages, move other vehicles, clear debris, and remove personal items. If there are HOA or parking rules, tell us so we can coordinate within those limits.
Total loss or insurance claim still open
Tip: If your car was declared a total loss from an accident or storm damage, make sure the insurance claim is closed and ownership has been released back to you, if applicable. If your insurer still has paperwork pending, donation may need to wait until their process is complete to avoid title conflicts.
Out-of-area storage or tow-yard fees
Tip: If your damaged car is sitting at a tow yard or body shop around Atlanta, there may be daily storage fees or release paperwork. Let us know the exact location and any deadlines. In some cases we can coordinate quickly to reduce extra costs, but we need complete contact details for the facility.
